SolidComp Strengthens Reality Twin’s On-Premises Development and ISO 27001 Readiness

SolidComp’s EU co-funded information security development project strengthens Reality Twin’s ability to meet demanding industrial information security, product security and implementation requirements. The development project raises SolidComp’s and Reality Twin’s information security to a new level.

SolidComp’s project focuses especially on two key areas: on-premises hosting for Reality Twin and information security processes for ISO/IEC 27001 certification.

The aim is to ensure that Reality Twin can also be offered securely to customers whose industrial data, operating environment or internal requirements demand a high level of control. This is increasingly important for international industrial companies, critical infrastructure operators and organisations where information security is one of the first requirements in procurement decisions.

On-Premises Installation for Full Security Control

Industrial 3D data is not only visual material. It can contain information about production facility structures, equipment, maintenance targets, access routes, process areas and safety-related details. This information may require strict protection, meaning that data cannot necessarily be stored outside national borders or outside the customer’s own servers. This is why one shared hosting and operating model is not sufficient for all customers.

In SolidComp’s development project, the hosting readiness of the Reality Twin digital twin is being developed so that the service can be placed, according to the customer’s choice, not only in an international cloud environment, but also in a European or Finnish operating environment or in the customer’s own IT infrastructure as an on-premises solution. In environments with high information security requirements, Reality Twin can be operated entirely within the customer’s internal network, giving the customer full control over data management, storage and access.

In an on-premises installation, the software or service is placed in the customer’s own infrastructure. In practice, this means that the use of the service, the data and the system environment can be implemented according to the customer’s own IT and information security practices.

Customer success may require the ability to run workloads in the customer’s own environments, hybrid environments or nationally controlled operating environments when regulation, latency, sovereignty or information security require it. An on-premises solution can be particularly important when technological independence from external infrastructure is required, or when the customer otherwise needs strict control over data location, access rights, integrations, network connections or the technical boundaries of the operating environment.

For an industrial customer, this can mean, for example, that Reality Twin can be better aligned with the customer’s internal security practices, network architecture and access control models. It can also make procurement easier in situations where public cloud alone is not an acceptable option from the customer’s perspective.

ISO/IEC 27001 Certification Is an Internationally Recognised Security Standard

ISO/IEC 27001 is an internationally recognised standard for information security management systems. According to ISO, an information security management system that follows the standard helps organisations protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information through risk management. The purpose of the standard is not only technical protection, but comprehensive information security management through people, processes and technology.

For customers, ISO/IEC 27001 certification provides documented confidence that the service provider manages information security systematically. It supports supplier evaluation during procurement, strengthens risk management and makes collaboration easier, especially when the customer’s own requirements are strict.

In SolidComp’s development work, ISO/IEC 27001 readiness means developing processes, documentation, system architecture, access rights and risk management so that information security is part of service design, implementation and maintenance.

Information Security Has Become a Significant Procurement Requirement

Industrial digitalisation has moved increasing amounts of operational information into digital systems. At the same time, the boundary between IT environments and operational technology environments has changed. When data related to production, maintenance, design and safety is used more effectively, the importance of information security increases.

In procurement, industrial service providers are increasingly expected to demonstrate how information is protected, where it is located, who can access it and how the solution fits the customer’s own security requirements. This also applies to the use of digital twins and 3D data.

Reality Twin for Security-Critical Environments

SolidComp Reality Twin brings together 3D data, documentation and other site information related to an industrial environment in a visual operating environment. The more diversely the data is used, the more important it is that the operating environment can be implemented according to the customer’s requirements.

On-premises implementation gives the customer more options for controlling data location and the technical environment. ISO/IEC 27001 readiness, in turn, strengthens SolidComp’s own ability to manage information security systematically, in a documented way and according to an internationally recognised model.

This is essential especially for large and international companies, where supplier information security is often assessed before the actual solution discussion begins. SolidComp’s aim is that customer data is secure in all situations and that security requirements become a competitive advantage for the customer. It is also important that requirement discussions can be held openly, technically and reliably from the very beginning.

The Development Project Supports International Growth

SolidComp’s Digitalisation Innovation and Development Project is part of a broader strategy to develop Reality Twin into a securely implementable and internationally scalable service for demanding industrial environments. The project measures create a development path where information security, internationalisation readiness, the procurement partner model and a technical solution suitable for security-critical environments develop in parallel. In practice, SolidComp is strengthening its ability to serve customers in security-critical sectors.

Information Security Is Built Together with the Customer

Every industrial customer has their own requirements. Information security therefore cannot be treated only as a general promise. It must be built according to customer requirements.

Before the implementation of Reality Twin, SolidComp prepares the system architecture together with the customer. Customer-specific information security requirements are documented and implemented as agreed. This applies both to standard implementation models and to individually defined information security solutions.
