Smart laser scanning data is more valuable to production facilities than its cost

In this article, we explain how Reality Twin enriches the realistic laser scanning model with information contained in process diagrams and CAD models.

Laser scanning datasets contain a wealth of data about the current state of the production facility. Reality Twin uses AI to identify all recognizable equipment identifiers directly from the 3D scans.

Similarly, Reality Twin also reads P&ID diagrams, allowing these two sources of information to be matched. In practice, this means that you can find device positions or P&ID correspondences directly from the laser scanning model using Reality Twin’s search function.

This allows you to also find the documents you’re looking for with just a few clicks.

How does Reality Twin utilize CAD models?

While the 3D scan data of a pipeline is essentially point-based information, the corresponding CAD model covers its entire route. Additionally, CAD models include various types of standard information, such as attribute data, pressure ratings, and materials.

For instance, when replacing pipes, it’s important to know the pressure ratings, materials, and flange gaskets of the pipes.

Thanks to the linking of information, you also find information about the line ID stored in other information systems.

In Reality Twin, you can easily find all such information using the search function. You can perform the search, for example, by line ID, after which you immediately see the corresponding CAD models.
